At K9 and You in Houston, we focus on introducing furry family members to the rest of the family in the right way. If you have recently adopted a dog from an animal shelter, then be sure to let us know so that you can receive a discount on your puppy training!
Young Puppy Training (younger than 11 weeks)
There are a number of different behaviors that need to be taught so that your young puppy can fully adjust to living with your family. The ways in which animals communicate with one another are not necessarily appropriate for communicating with humans. Additionally, what may be cute when your puppy is young and cuddly will likely not be cute when they are fully grown. For these reasons, it is important to begin obedience training as soon as possible. The more that your puppy understands what you want and vice versa, the happier you both will be.
Older Puppy Training (11 weeks and older)
The saying that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks is not necessarily true. If you adopted an older dog, we can still work with both of you to teach your dog some basic behaviors. Some of these behaviors include:
- Sit, down, stay, and come
- Leave an item alone on command
- Basic play manners
- Eliminate biting and nipping issues
- Proper leash walking
Depending on the age of the dog you have adopted, we will work with you to teach them the age-appropriate socialization and obedience behaviors they need. Contact K9 and You in Houston for more information about our puppy and new dog training classes today!
